Causes of Toenail Fungus
If you are the type that likes to take good care of your fingernails and toenails, then you may want to read more about the causes of toenail fungus. People who suffer from this problem
can be the cleanest people on earth. They can be rich or poor, it doesn’t matter what your status is, and anyone can easily get it. In fact, you may be surprised where you can pick up toenail fungus.
The type of fungus that attacks your toenails typically comes from warm damp areas like in public gyms, swimming pools, or shower rooms. Most often you will find that athletes and people that wear tight fitting shoes or tight hosiery are more apt to get toenail fungus. Although the reason why athletes would be more often exposed to such area’s that cause toenail fungus is evident, most people do not understand that the other two are even causes.
If your shoe’s or hosiery are too tight, it does not allow for your toenails to breath and dry out, and also can cause trauma where infection can more easier set in. What’s more, the fungal infection can spread from one toe to another, and over other areas of your body. Furthermore, people who wear heavy work boots are often at high risk because their feet get warm and sweaty, the perfect breeding ground for fungus.
Other such factors for getting toenail fungus would be unbalanced pH levels in your skin, not taking care to dry your feet off after washing or exercise, as well as a person whose immune system has been put at risk. One example of such a person would be someone with diabetes. Because their immune system is already wrecked, they are at great risk and should always keep their nails cut and cleaned of any debris by a professional.
But fungus does not only grow on the toenails, often people who wash dishes in restaurants or clean houses professionally will find that they are at risk for fingernail fungus. And because these little fungi can spread so easily, many times when someone shares fingernail or toenail clippers they put themselves at great risk to contract it. Even whole families can become infected if they are all suffering from a cold that compromises their immune system or use the same towels and bathroom facilities.
The causes of toenail fungus are varied but in the end it comes down to proper hygiene, and careful use of public areas. Not many people think that they have to dry off completely, they believe clean is clean. Well that is not the case and great care must be taken in some cases to always completely dry off your hands and feet.
