Toenail Fungus Home Remedies
Toenail fungus can be an unsightly infection of the toenails turning the nails yellow, brown, and black in some cases. The nails thicken over time making them hard to clip or cut. There are home remedies that have worked over the decades to cure the toenail fungus without any side effects, often associated with the medical prescriptions for the fungus.
As with most home remedies, the exact ingredients or application of the remedies have been handed down from one generation to another so some of the instructions may be miscommunicated or lost over the years. Here are some home remedies that have been effective in curing toenail fungus.
Tea Tree Oil is a natural oil found in Tea Tree, which has anti fungal properties that help to cure the fungus. The oil is available at most stores in the medical isle or in the pharmacy area. The instructions for the application are to place a few drops of the oil on the infected area every day. Rub in the oil into the area and allow to dry. Repeat this procedure until the toenail is completely back to normal.
Standard mouthwash is a great antiseptic to use on the toenails. Place a small amount of mouthwash in a bowl and soak the toes in the liquid for several minutes. Pat the toes dry. Repeat this method for the duration of the infection. To enhance the qualities of the mouthwash, add a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide to the mixture.
Gold Bond powder or Baby Powder will help avoid the moisture in the foot area, which is what the fungus thrives on. Adding the powder to the shoes and socks will prevent the damaging moisture when used in combination with other home remedies. When the fungus is starved of moisture, it will slowly die off naturally.
Vitamin E is a popular product used in many homes for its powerful antioxidants to fight off toxins. It is also a great home remedy for toenail fungus. Simply rub the Vitamin E oil on the infected toenail and underneath the toenail several times per day to cure the toenail fungus. Repeat this procedure for several weeks and the fungus will clear up.
